Adult t-shirt to kids t-shirt

I have seen lots of shirt re-fashions on my favorite blogs lately. So, I had to try my hand at it...

The first shirt I did was an old white tank top. I don't remember what it was made out of, but after one wash it shrunk about 10 sizes!

I cut the seams off each side and pinned it so I knew where to cut.

About every inch, I made a cut. The cuts were about an inch and a half.

Then I went through and tied all the sections together.

You could get your kid to help at this point. Mine was to busy playing.

She tried it on and it fit perfectly.

She had to wear it to school the next day!

Since that one worked out so well. We decided to make another...

She had a cute herringbone skirt that didn't fit anymore. Since I couldn't bear to let the material go to waste. I cut the ruffle off the bottom, (to save for another project) and cut the top part into strips. This skirt had shorts under it. (I guess it's technically called a skort) So, I left the band around the top. Now she has black shorts with a herringbone belt. The shorts are fine to play around the house. The skirt was just to short for my liking.

Using an old black t-shirt, we cut straight down the middle this time and tied like before.

I made fabric rosettes out of the herringbone material and attached them at the neckline.

She loved this shirt, too. (sorry for the bad pic, it was really late)

I even had enough fabric to make a rosette for her hair.

Crimson really liked this project more than the white t-shirt. I showed her how to make the fabric rosettes and she made some to put on her flip-flops. (that's another post)

One of the greatest joys of blogging, is finding new projects to do. I literally have a craft room full of projects just waiting on me to finish! :)

Hope you have a great day and find something creative to do!

Strawberry bouquet

My best friend recently had a birthday. I wanted to give her something better than the original bouquet of roses. So...what was a girl to do? Well...she loves chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries. So why not make a chocolate covered strawberry bouquet?

Doesn't that just look scrumptious? I wish I had made a bouquet for myself? LOL!
If you want to make your own bouquet...follow along...

First, gather your supplies. I picked up a small vase and ribbon at Wal-mart.

I also picked up milk chocolate and white chocolate. The lollipop sticks I found in the craft section.

I already had the tissue paper and sparkley silver ribbon. (Leftover from Christmas)

Basically, you just wash the strawberries and stick the popsicle sticks up through the leafy part of the strawberry like so:

Then dip the strawberries in the melted milk chocolate. I bought the kind that you melt in the microwave, but if you buy the almond bark or chocolate chips just heat them in a double boiler or you can use a metal bowl over a pan of boiling water. Most chocolate has the instructions to melt on the side of the package.

Once the milk chocolate had cooled, I drizzled melted white chocolate over it.

I scrunched up tissue paper and ribbon to stick inside the vase. This helps hold the popsicle sticks. Just arrange the strawberries how you want, to make a gorgeous edible bouquet.

Edited to add: I'm linking up with Hope Studios Tutorial Tuesday, click over to see some other awesome tutorials!

Try not to eat the strawberries before you can give the bouquet to a friend. I had more strawberries than would fit in the vase, so I had to try one. Let me tell you...it was really hard to stop at just one! I'm pretty sure my BFF loved them. I dropped them off at her office before work, she said they didn't make it home that day. :)

In other news...my leg is doing much better. I am able to walk without the walker or crutches. I still have to wear the walking boot. The doctor wants me to be able to walk without that by my next appointment. Which is on the 21st of this month. Hopefully, I can.

Now that my computer is working again...and accepting pictures...I should be able to post more frequently. Keeping my fingers crossed that the computer doesn't crash again. (I have some really cool posts ready)

Awesome new fabric

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone had a great weekend. We grilled out and hung out by the pool on Saturday. Today we did a little shopping. I made an iPod Touch case for my daughter back in December, but haven't blogged about it. I bought a few gorgeous fabrics today and will be making iPod covers, Netbook covers and a few other things that I've been thinking about. Wanna see the fabric? Ha! Of course you do...

I'm sure you want to see more:

And then there's the gorgeous damask...

Yeah! Me and my sewing machine will be having a blast soon!

On another happy note...I ordered the fabulous 75-300 mm lens for my camera. Should be in by the first of next week. I feel a photo shoot coming...

Have a great week!

Physical Therapy

I get to start physical therapy today! This would be one of those happy sad moments. You know the one where you think "this will be good for me" and yet at the same time you are thinking "this is going to hurt" ?!?! Yeah. One of those moments. Either way I'm going this afternoon.

I mentioned a few days ago, that I would post some of my xrays. Well here you go...

This was on the day I broke my leg and crushed my ankle.

Below is after the first surgery.

The next one is after the second surgery.

That would be 4 plates, 30+ screws plus the cadaver(sp?) bone.

I am ready for the physical therapy...just not ready for more pain. Please keep me in your prayers.

More good news from the doctor...

Just had the best doctor's visit...to date! He said everything is healing well and is allowing me to start putting weight on my leg and foot. Also, he gave me a prescription to start physical therapy. I'm beyond excited! I have literally been going crazy the last few weeks. Petrified that if I put weight on the leg, all the work thus far would be for nothing and I would need surgery again. (The doctor pretty much told me this at the last visit.) I did put weight on it twice, but only because I would have fallen had I not. Apparently, it didn't hurt it because the x-rays came back good. I may post one of my x-rays in the near future, but I don't want to run off anyone that's squimish. So...if you'd rather me not, please say so.

Hello to my new followers, I am very thankful to have you here. Stick around...I have some really cool stuff coming soon...

I have a couple little projects to post in the next few days. They were done while sitting on the couch or at a bar stool in my kitchen. It's funny when you figure out that almost every muscle is tied into your leg somehow.

I recently found Amy at Priddy Creations or maybe she found me (can't remember) on Twitter, and had to check out her shop. I fell in love with one of her camera straps. Although, she ran out of the fabric I originally wanted she created another strap for me. It's going to be gorgeous! It shipped out today. As soon as I get it, I'll do a post for sure!

I also met Gussy on Twitter. She seems to be a wonderful person and an excellent role model. Check out her post on "How I quit my day job." Very inspiring!

My hubby should be cleaning out my craft room this weekend. (We used it for storage over the last few months.) My sewing machine is warned, she's going to be very busy, very soon! :)

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Hello world

Time for another update...

I go back to the doctor next Wednesday. I'm doing really good pain-wise and am able to move my foot and ankle without causing too much pain. Hopefully, the doctor will give me the okay to start putting weight on it and/or start physical therapy. I am beyond ready to start walking again.

Our house survived the floods, but my husband's work was completly flooded. He has been wearing haz-may suits and wader boots to work since Saturday. They are trying to clean everything and rebuild within 6 weeks. If you haven't heard about the flooding in Tennessee, just go to YouTube and search for Nashville floods. It's heartbreaking!

I have been working on some small projects, but can't wait to get back in my craft room. After my blogging hiatus, I plan to come back with more home improvement projects, sewing projects, and an etsy shop. I think I may even have a new look for the blog.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Please check in and let me know I haven't run you off yet.

XOXO!

Good news from the doctor

I received good news from my doctor today. I'm off bedrest, but still have to keep the leg elevated. My leg and ankle are healing well. My next appointment is in 6 weeks. I get to start physical therapy after that. No weight on foot til then though. Sometime around the middle to end of May I hope to be walking. You know I'll be crafting like a crazy woman!!!! I have access to a Cricut and all kinds of scrapbooking stuff now!!! For the mean time, I am having a blast reading other amazing blogs and starring all your amazing ideas in my Reader.

By the way...I will go back to my day job on Monday. :)

Hugs!

Still kicking ... or not

Hello to my sweet followers...that is if I have any left. My bloggy break has taken a lot longer than originally expected. My second surgery went very well. I now have four titanium plates and 30 screws in my leg. Along with that came 8 incisions and somewhere around 62 stiches. I won't be able to put any weight on the leg until the end of May (which is when my physical therapy starts) but the pain is getting a little more bearable each day. In fact I was actually able to move my foot a little on Saturday and even drove for a few minutes. (first time since the accident 7 weeks ago) Thanks for your prayers and comments. As for my bloggy friends, I still visit your pages when I can and try to leave you a comment every once in a while. I'll try to do better as I get better.

Thanks again!

An update on me...

I went to the doctor yesterday and he said everything from the first surgery was healing well. He scheduled my second (and hopefully last) surgery for Monday morning at 7:30. I'll be in the hospital (Vanderbilt) until at least Wednesday. Once I get home, I'll be on bed-rest until I go back on the 10th for a post-op appointment. I won't be able to put any weight on my left foot for three months, after that we'll start physical therapy. (provided that Monday's surgery goes well) The doctor did mention that the coming surgery was much more serious and invasive than the first.

If you don't know what happened, I had a sledding accident on January 30th. I ran into a tree and broke both bones in my lower left leg, crushing my ankle. The first surgery was done on the 31st, where the doctor attached an Ex-Fix (steel frame on the outside of my leg) and fixed the tibia with a steel plate and screws.

I sincerely appreciate all the prayers, phone calls, cards, and kind words you have sent. It seems like everyday I get a card or an email from someone. It has been wonderful and encouraging to know I have so many people thinking about me!

I hope to get back to crafting in the next couple weeks. I have a craft room full of little projects just waiting for me to work on them! I would love to sew or paint something, but I have to be patient. If I don't let myself rest, It's going to take a lot longer to heal. So...I'm going to be a good girl and stay in bed...as much as I hate it. :(

Hope you're having a wonderful week!
